Monday, February 21, 2011 Photo Of The Day: Cram A Few More Folders In Each ClassPhoto Of The Day: Despite the fact that research clearly supports a lower student to teacher ratio as being optimum for most instruction, it seems that politicians across our country are prepared to add a few extra folders to each teachers' class periods. Monday, December 27, 2010 Photo Of The Day: Sucked InPhoto Of The Day: Follow-up! So, I went searching for the hi-res image and found it at NASA.gov, a great website. The only problem is, I have learned enough about the image now to know that it is an "artist's conception" of the Black Hole?!?!! "As the drawing suggests..." Huh, does this even qualify for a "Pictures of the Year" list? Time? CNN? No wonder I was blown away by the epic image. Ha, ha, you would think I planned these two posts as a follow-up to the "Bad Day--Shark" photos! P.S. The hi-res image is still awesome! It is now my desktop background. Thursday, December 23, 2010 Photo Of The Day: 1+1=1?Photo Of The Day --> What clues should we have considered when judging the authenticity of the yesterday's Photo Of he Day? There were plenty of clues in the two posts yesterday. We need to help students learn not to trust sources of information too readily. They must learn how to evaluate the mass of information---plenty of it misleading---they are bombarded with in our information culture. Posted at 10:08 AM (permalink)

Saturday, December 18, 2010 Photo Of The Day: Facebook Is Getting MeToday's Photo Of The Day is a themed shot from a photographer I've already featured, Rishi Bandopadhay (A Lot On My Mind). Well, I---like Rishi---have succumbed to Facebook! I have been at conflict with myself about it for quite some time, but after years of resistance, I decided to take the plunge. Low and behold, in the last 24 hours I've communicated with dozens of great people I've known over the years...but for the most part had lost contact with! What a delight! This photo is by Rishi Bandopadhay. The photo was taken June 1, 2010 in Plano, Texas. It is posted on Flickr here. Find me on Facebook at dan.s.martin.edconnections Posted at 9:40 AM (permalink)

Friday, December 17, 2010 Photo Of The Day: Hands On Anatomy Lesson In IndiaPhoto of the Day will be a new feature on this blog. All photos have a Creative Common License, meaning you can use them for non-commercial purposes. Please click here to review the license if you intend to use the photo. Photos will generally have education and young people as the subject. I will include photos from around the world, many in classrooms. I don't want to over define what Photo of the Day will be. Some will support a theme...and others will just be pictures I thought would be neat or interesting to educators. Maybe you'll even come across pictures you or your colleagues can use for your class or school! That kind of sharing is a big part of the mission of this blog! This photo is called "Hands On Anatomy Lesson." It was taken on July 26, 2005 in Nalgonda, Andhra Pradesh, India. The photographer is Shreyans Bhansali (on Flickr here). The photographer describes the photo: "Nirmala, the headmaster of the Zilla Parishat Primary School in Mothey teaches a group of primary school children about the human anatomy. This government run school is staffed with a group of dedicated teachers and works closely with MVF. For more information about MVF and the work it does to eliminate child-labor, visit: www.mvfindia.org" Posted at 10:53 AM (permalink)
